Editorial Independence Policy
The independent journalism of the New England News Collaborative is made possible by a diverse range of funding sources, including donations from members of the public, grants from foundations and other entities, station dues, and sponsorships.
While we accept donations, grants and underwriting to support NENC’s general operations and broad coverage areas, our news judgments are made independently. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services, or opinions.
Senior editors with the NENC retain full authority over all journalistic decisions and will cede no right of review or influence over editorial content. This firewall is necessary to protect our mission of producing high-quality, nonpartisan journalism in service of the public.
When editors deem it necessary and appropriate for transparency, we may disclose a funder in an editor's note or within a particular story. Our listeners, viewers, readers and donors expect us to retain our independent editorial judgment and scrupulous adherence to journalistic standards. And so do we.
